My Sweet Summer Friend!
The warm wind blowing
softly through the trees
another sultry southern day
the sweet scent of Jasmine and Gardenia
permeates the air
And as I pass this milestone
once again,
the first day of summer
the longest day of the year
It is only right to pause and reflect
Each grain of sand
like a moment in time
that passes through our fingers
turning minutes to hours
hours to days, days to months
Seasons turn to years
new life becomes generations
that wisps into our lives
and waltzes right back out
Leaving us questioning if
they were ever really there at all
As though we weren't anything
more than observers of the
passing of time and lives
Our hearts and minds tell us
nothing has changed
But the mirror dares us to lie
and threatens to expose
our deepest fears
But as we move forward through time,
I will always stop to remember and honor
a life well lived, a beautiful example set,
And a legacy that will long outlive even you,
My Sweet Summer Solstice!
May the sands of time refine you
And as you stand and look at the sunset
